Like mother, like daughter

Most afternoons as my toddlers are waking up from their naps,

I am in my craft room packing up orders.

Today was no different.

 

My 2 year came in with a huge grin and got busy playing.

When she reached under my craft table and grabbed an envelope,

 I had to turn around to investigate.

 

Here is what I found:

 

With a stack of folded blankets next to her, she was putting them in envelopes.

(Gotta love the toys all over the floor.)

 

 

Very carefully, with the seal already peeled off so the top was sticky.

(Bedhead still present. :) )

 

 

Shake it a few times.

(Monkey see, monkey do.)

 

 

Attempt to seal it up.

 

 

I missed the best picture of all though.

Right after this she put the package on the floor and laid on it.

When I pack items in a Flat Rate Envelope,

I'll squish all the air out of it so it will fit in there nicely.

I'm quite sure that is what she was doing.

 

This girl keeps me laughing!

She is a goofy one!

I am taking part in a photography project called Project 52. 

The goal is to take a photo every week for an entire year. 

Each week we will choose a different theme to use as a prompt.

The first week's theme is "winter."  

We will post our pictures each Friday.

 

I am not officially part of the blog hop until next week

but I decided to take a picture today anyway.

This winter we are lucky enough to make use of the cold temps and have an ice rink.

This year winter = ice skating.

I am a fan of action shots. Love the tiny pieces of ice flying in this picture.

This will be an awesome challenge for me.

I've gotten rusty with my photography "skills".

This will force me to take out my camera more often

and put to use what I learned last year in the class I took.

I'm excited to participate!!

We surprised our kids with a night away at a cabin in the mountains on Saturday night.

It was a lovely and much needed break from the hubbub of life.

Christmas Morning.

Way less mess.

My 2 yr old must have been too busy with gifts.

She forgot to plug in the "Mistmas" lights,

something she has done every morning since we set up our tree.

 

 

Santa always brings games for the kids.

It helps the parents stay sane thru Christmas break!



No Sew Tree Skirt

As we were eating dinner last night,

my husband asked why there weren't any gifts under the tree yet.

I replied, "I'm not wrapping any until I get the new tree skirt done."

He gave me a raised eye brow.

"I'm going to do it tonight", I said.

His eye brow went a stitch higher.

(He knows me quite well.)

 

I proved him wrong and with the help of my 10 yr old son,

we got the tree skirt made!

 

 

 I followed this tutorial.

My son was pleased to be able to use the glue gun.

It was a low temp one so I felt comfortable letting him use it.

When his hand got tired, we switched and he pinched the fabric into ruffles

while I put down the glue.

 

I did make several changes.

Instead of using a drop cloth, I used this fabric.

I used my pinking rotary blade when I cut the cotton fabric.

I don't care for fraying edges.

You can use fray check instead of a pinking blade.

 

 

 I like the little decorative edge the pinking blade gives though.

I have to smile when I look at this picture.

This tree screams "little kids live in this house!!".

Lights half mast, ornaments clumped all in one spot, bare spots with no ornaments. :)

 

 

The best thing about this tree skirt?

It was cheap, quick and easy to make.

If I decide next year I don't care for it, I can make a new one easily enough.

 

(My husband was quite impressed when I put it around the tree last night!)
