Project 52:8

Project 52: Week 8
Theme: Looking Up

I spent last weekend in San Francisco with a few of my sisters.
I kept the theme for this week in mind while snapping pictures around the city.

The Golden Gate Bridge.
We walked it at about 5:30 in the evening. The lighting was amazing.
And that is an understatement.

A walk thru the Redwood trees in Muir Woods.

Blooming trees on our drive along the coast.

I loved the contrast of the different types of buildings.

The clock tower of the Ferry Building.

Lanterns hanging in Union Square.

An intricate fire escape in Union Square.
This picture was taken in the dark without a flash.
Luckily, that street was lit quite brightly by street light and shop lights.

Project 52:7

Project 52, Week 7
The theme for this week was Cabin Fever.

It's been a while since we've had true cabin fever in this house.
It seems like winters here last only a few months.
Just when cabin fever is about to set in,
it starts getting nice out.

I was at a loss of what to photograph.
My husband's parents were here visiting us earlier this week.
Over breakfast one morning, I asked them what they thought cabin fever is.

My father-in-law talked about how people under the same roof
start to get irritated at each other for no reason.
That prompted me to stage this photo:

I crack up looking at it. I told them to be mad at each other.
They kept giggling instead. Always doing the opposite of what I want them to do. :)

(The one problem with staging a picture using manual settings is that by the time I got the settings right, these girls were done for. Oh well. Good enough.)

Cabin fever also equals a constant mess in the house.
Endless forts being built.

Hop on over here to see what Amber thinks cabin fever is.
She should know, she lives in Alaska.

Project 52. Week 6.
Theme: Work of Art.

I was bummed all week long that I hadn't thought ahead for this week.
The bus that my kids take to the ski hill on Saturdays is definitely a work of art.
I wasn't about to drive half hour away to where it is parked
so I had to come up with something different.

With a few ideas rattling around in my brain,
all day on Thursday I meant to take pictures but kept getting busy with other things.
All of a sudden it was 6 pm and I still hadn't taken one.
Darn!
Now I had the extra challenge of shooting in horrid lighting.
Ugh.
Procrastination backfired on me this time.

I grabbed my camera, walked into the living room and saw this.
(Knowing I was in a very low light situation,
I cranked my ISO and set my aperture at 2.
Not exactly ideal but it worked.
These are straight out of my camera,
the only editing I did was to take out a very distracting black scrap on the carpet
that I didn't notice as I was shooting.)

Works of art happening right before my eyes!

Concentration now in session.

The first work of art.

The second work of art.

52:5

Week 5 of Project 52.
The theme was black and white.

When I first started thinking about this theme,
I realized I never think in black and white.
I never put much thought into what makes a great black and white photograph.
But that is all the farther I got with my thinking and before I knew it it was Thursday morning!
 :)

We woke up to heavy fog on Thursday morning and it had snowed all day on Wednesday.
Fog is rare in our area. It allowed me to get pictures I otherwise would not be able to get.
In the morning, I took a walk down to where I thought I could get some cool pictures.
They weren't as cool as I thought, but on the way back I spied this...

This is a picture I could not have gotten on any other day.
It's part of our neighborhood.
Typically you'd see house lining both sides of the street.
That morning, they were all hidden by the fog.

I took the long way to run my errands that morning looking for more photo ops.
My 5 year old was very disgusted with me.
"Mooommm! This is taking forever! No more pictures!"

I had to be careful where I stopped because the roads are narrow (with steep ditches)
and the fog was still pretty heavy.

I'm obsessed with snow covered fences.

I saw a neat photo op with some horses in a field but it was too sketchy to stop,
so I settled for...

a few cows instead.
I would have loved to crop this picture better or get in closer but
there was a barbed wire fence running right below this frame.
I tried a few with it in there but it spoiled it.
